Agriculture: Romania, second in Europe for bee growing

Romania ranks second in Europe for bee growing, said Etienne Bruneau, the president of the Commission of Science and Technology of Apiculture Product Quality within Apimondia, present at “Honey Celebration” in Blaj, an event hosting the most important conference in Europe, “BeeCome”.

Other representatives of beekeeper associations in Europe, like Walter Haefeker, the president of the Association of Professional Beekeepers in Germany and Henry Clement, former president of the National Union of Beekeepers in France, pointed out the unhappy effect of pesticides used in agriculture on bees.

Clement asked the people present at the conference to militate for the suppression of all pesticides used in agriculture in Romania. “The bee is a true environment sentinel and we must protect it, because we protect ourselves,” he added.

Thousands of Romanian and foreign beekeepers participated in the 9th edition of  “Honey Celebration”in Blaj, which included a fair with honey and honey products and conferences on apiculture topics and artistic shows.
