Predoiu: CSM will be notified about the recent instances of violence
The minister of justice Catalin Predoiu stated on Monday that the importance of crime with violence that has lately taken place is a signal and justice and home affairs should gather ranks, a group of specialists to analyse the cases and send the conclusions to the CSM.
The minister of justice said it was not a phenomenon to be solved easily by one of the institutions with responsibilities in justice and home affairs.
« Mentioning that we observe the independence and authority, and the autonomy of the tribunals and non-interference in the acto of justice itself, the way of solutioning corruption cases with violece associated crime are under the attention of the minister. A working group will propose to the Superior council of magistrates (CSM) a conclusion in connection to this type of cases” Predoiu said.
Catalin Predoiu underlined the fact that the working group at the level of the minister of justice where CSM members are included, analyses the solutions offered by tribunals; the country report regarding justice drawn up by the European Commission shows that the corruption cases are solved with less severe sentences.
At the same time, the official stated that « we should not exaggerate with an extremely repressive, sanctionary tough system or an approach of the courts to ignore procedure vices or lack of evidence, thus the justice balance could be biased easily”.
Predoiu added that he had in mind « the strengthening of minor sentences » as the courts apply the gentler sanction.“ I won’t influence the balance” Predoiu concluded.
