Romanian-German trade advances 20.5pct in H1 2021

The volume of trade between Romania and Germany in the first half of 2021 reached 16.4 billion euros, up 20.5% from the same period in 2020, according to a statement from the Romanian-German Chamber of Commerce (AHK Romania) released on Wednesday.

According to the latest data provided by the Federal Bureau of Statistics (Destatis), the volume of trade between Germany and Romania recovered significantly in the first half of 2021, as against the same period in 2020.

German exports to Romania amounted to 9 billion euros, up more than 24% from the previous year, while imports from Romania to Germany rose to 7.4 billion euros (+17.2%).

With a volume of trade of 16.4 billion euros (+20.5%) in the first six months of the year, Romania ranks 20th in the top of Germany's trading partners in the mentioned interval.

"That is a clear sign of recovery, given that the half-yearly figures reached pre-crisis levels. If we look at the dynamics of bilateral trade and the positive atmosphere regarding business in German companies operating in Romania, we expect - by the end of 2021 - the figures to increase even above the level of 2019 (about 32 billion euros)," according to Sebastian Metz, general manager and member on the Board of Directors of AHK Romania.

AHK Romania is the official representative of the German economy and also the largest bilateral chamber of commerce in Romania.

Established in 2002, AHK has over 550 member firms and provides companies with an important platform for networking, information and experience exchange.
