Parliament informed about additional deployment of allied structures in Romania
The plenary reunion of the Parliament took note, on Wednesday, of the letter of the President Klaus Iohannis in which he informs the senators and deputies about the approval of the additional deployment of some allied structures in Romania, the mandate of the Minister of National Defense to undertake the steps to supplement the military forces and the prepositioning of equipment, as well as initiating the necessary measures for the stationing, expansion and development of training facilities and the deployment of troops on the national territory.
"At the NATO Summit in Madrid, held on June 29-30, the allies adopted the new Strategic Concept, considering the Russian Federation as the most important threat to the security and stability of the allies. In these conditions, the long-term development of the deterrence and defense position was decided to guarantee the security and defense of the Allies. NATO assumed the responsibility to deploy, if necessary, additional forces on the Allied Eastern Flank, including on the territory of Romania, to increase the reaction capacity of the already existing battle groups, with the prepositioning of high-performance equipment and an adequate command and control system. Also at the same Summit, both the president of the USA and the president of France announced the intention to deploy some command and control structures and some brigade combat groups on the territory of our country, as well as the maintenance of those units already existing in Romania," president Iohannis pointed out in the letter addressed to the MPs.
Klaus Iohannis informed the senators and deputies that he approved: the deployment on Romanian territory of some command and control structures and a brigade-level combat group from the US armed forces, totaling up to 3,050 soldiers; the deployment on the territory of Romania of an advanced element from a French brigade-level command, which will take under its command, after preparation and consolidation, the units that will be assigned to the allied brigade established, if necessary, in our country; the mandate of the Minister of National Defense to take the steps to supplement the military forces and the prepositioning of equipment, depending on the participation confirmations, with the subsequent information of the Supreme Council of the Country's Defence, as well as to initiate the necessary measures for the stationing, expansion and development of the military facilities training and disposition of the troops on the national territory.
