Minister Teodorovici called in Parliament to explain stock exchange crash

Union Save Romania - USR president Dan Barna declared that in the first week of the parliamentary session his party would ask finance minister Eugen Teodorovici to come in the Parliament plenum to explain about the stock exchange crash and losses of 3 billion lei.

“USR will ask minister Eugen Teodorovici to come in Parliament and explain to us his reason for stealing 3 billions from state resources by the statements which led to the crash of the stock exchange. The following day the exchange had a loss of 3 billion lei, practically the whole stock accumulation of the previous year. USR will ask minister Teodorovici to come during the Opposition Time and justify this thing in front of Parliament plenum. Mr Teodorovici should answer for it,” Dan Barna said at a press conference on Thursday.

On December 21, 2018, the government adopted the emergency order on fiscal measures, called the “tax on greed”.

The main provisions are: the price for gas and electricity will remain the same for 3 years, bank shares will be applied taxes if ROBOR is higher than 2%; the private pension fund commission will drop from 2.5% to 1% and the tax on vice in the field of gaming will go up by 2% of the business figure.

After the adoption of the order by the government, the exchange recorded losses. Early this week companies listed on the exchange recorded a loss of 4.3 billion lei. The BET index registered a drop of 4.2%, the most abrupt decline among stock exchanges in EU. The decline came in the context in which the Executive offered investors a first indication about the taxation of banks.
