French ambassador to Bucharest, Michele Ramis, welcomed at the Government House

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila on Tuesday welcomed French ambassador to Bucharest Michele Ramis at the Government House, announcing an intention for the roadmap to the Strategic Partnership Statement between Romania and France to be updated this year.

According to a press statement released by the Government, the meeting provided an opportunity for an exchange of views on the current state of bilateral cooperation and prospects for its development, ten years after the signing of the Strategic Partnership Statement between the two countries.

"At the meeting, the intention for the roadmap to the Strategic Partnership Declaration to be updated this year was highlighted, along with the prospects for the signing of this important document in the bilateral relationship on the occasion of a visit by the Romanian prime minister to Paris for the beginning of the Cross Season at the end of this year," according to the press statement.

Dancila welcomed the organisation in France and Romania of the Cross Season (November 2018 - July 2019), "a major bilateral public diplomacy event designed to contribute to presenting the current and future dynamics of the relationship between the two countries as well as the celebration of the Greater Union Centennial."

The two officials also underlined the "very good" dynamics of the bilateral economic relations and the determination to diversify areas of cooperation.

"The prime minister of Romania welcomed the significant presence of French investments in Romania and showed the government's willingness to develop sectoral cooperation with France in areas such as research, energy, sustainable development, agriculture, tourism and the IT sector."

Regarding cooperation at European level and in view of holding of the presidency of the Council of the EU by Romania in the first half of 2019, Dancila showed that Romania is determined to take on the role of pro-European anchor in the region. She reiterated the intention of Romania to get involved in the debates on the future of Europe, sustaining a message of unity and cohesion.

At the same time, Dancila pointed out the importance of Romania's accession to the Schengen area in the period ahead.
