BVB : 40% of investors left the market in 2009, 30% in 2010

Approximately 40% of the investors of BVB left the market between 2008-2009 and 30% left the market between 2009-2010, the general manager of BVB Valentin Ionescu said on Monday.

The cause, according to the BVB official was the fact that very many invested on a volatile market unknowingly, and with little liquidity.

Before the drop in BVB which started at mid-2007, anticipating the financial crisis which was to come to Romania, the number of active accounts at BVB was of 10,000 and at present it is estimated at 3,000.

After a number of years where the portfolios of investors grew, when the crisis started there was a difference on the market, depending on the financial education of the investors.

According to the BVB representatives, 90% of the clients did not want to mark their profiles to an increase of portofolios of 50% waiting for appreciations even bigger but they got drops.

The number of active accounts at BVB was very low by comparison to other countries inthe region, irrespective of the stock exchange with good or bad activity. In Poland, for example, a public bid brought over 300,000 new accounts, and the total number of investors is of millions.
