Tourism: Romanian tourists start changing traditional Easter destinations with extra European trips

Tourists who choose to travel during Easter holidays by means of travel agencies are not necessarily looking for traditional holidays. Many of them chose this year Catholic or Muslim countries, warm places where they can sunbathe and demand went up by 40-50% compared to last year, several tour operators declared.

“Compared to last year, we register a 40% increase of holiday demands in this period to extra-European destinations, thus determining a record of clients in tours outside Europe. This year, Romanian tourists chose active holidays for Easter, in places like Peru, China and South Africa, while for relaxation they chose the Maldives, Dominican Republic and Cuba, said Sorin Stoica, the general manager of Eturia.

“At home, sales of Easter packages almost doubled, recording an overall sale increase of 94% compared to the same period of 2017. We notice that every time a free day is added to an important holiday, the volume of sales grows by at least 30%, said Lucia Morariu, founder president of Eximtur.

The most sought destinations in Romania were Felix Spas, Sinaia, Predeal, Calimanesti-Caciulata and Maramures. The average price was 600 lei.

Lucia Moraru says that the most successful packages abroad were Bulgaria and Hungary, as well as Cyprus and Egypt.

Three and four-star hotels with swimming pools and spa centres, short term packages (2-4 days), all inclusive, close destinations and individual transport were most in demand.
