Renault to unveil Dacia 100% electric city car in March

French carmaker Renault said on Wednesday it will unveil the first fully electric car of its Dacia brand at the Geneva Motor Show next month.

"Dacia opens a new chapter and makes its electric revolution! True to its history as an "automotive gamechanger", Dacia enters the electric market and will present a 100% electric showcar," Renault said in a press release.

Dacia’s electric city car will be unveiled on March 3, Renault said.

Renault bought Automobile Dacia, an ailing state-owned Romanian company at the time, in 1999.

Dacia will also unveil its new bi-fuel petrol and LPG TCe 100 ECO-G engine, which will be fitted into the existing Dacia passenger car models Duster, Sandero, Sandero Stepway, Logan and Logan MCV.

Dacia has topped the SeeNews ranking of the 100 biggest companies by total revenue in Southeast Europe in the last five years.

In an interview featured in Top 100 Biggest SEE companies published by SeeNews in 2019, Christophe Dridi, Managing Director of Automobile Dacia and Groupe Renault Romania commented on the company's readiness to launch an electric or hybrid Dacia.

"The question is not about if we will have an electric or hybrid Dacia or not, the question is when. We already have the technology because we are part of the Alliance. Our future projects will have the capability to add this technology, but we will launch it when the market is ready. Infrastructure is also an important factor, as well as regulation," Dridi said.
