Healthcare: Report: The pharma market in Romania increased by over 13% last year

The pharma market in Romania, including drugs with and without prescription registered in 2018 an increase of 13.4% against last year, reaching the level of 3.374 billion euro, according to the data supplied by the company for market research IMS and quoted by Zentiva, one of the main local producer of drugs.

According to it, Zentiva had in 2018 an average producer price of 7.84 lei with 4% up against the average of 7.52 lei in 2017.

As a reference, the average producer price at the level of the whole local pharma market was in 2018 25.9 lei with 8% higher than the average of 24 lei in 2017, according to a report sent by Zentiva ( the BVB symbol SCD).

Other local producers with tradition on the pharma market are Ranbaxy (Terapia) Cluj, Antibiotice Ia?i, Labormed, Biofarm. The main importers are: Sanofi, Hoffmann la Roche, Novartis, Pfizer, Glaxo SmithKline.

As regards the average price of Zentiva products (finite and goods products)per sold pharma unit was 4.37 lei in 2018 (4.61 lei in 2017) the drop being due to the mix of products and wrapping shapes.

The product portfolio of Zentiva SA includes 130 products for human use in solid shape (capsules, pills, pallets) and injectable solutions.

The company closed 2018 with a net profit of 262.62 million lei. The net turnover registered was 461.4 million lei.

The activity of export of finite products and goods represented last year 59% of the total income from sales (252 million lei) against 53% in 2017 ( 213 million lei).

The export of drugs was made through a company in the Sanofi group (Sanofi Winthrop) and through the Zentiva group (Zentiva  k.s) and were destined mainly to the markets of the European Union. The share of OTC products in Zentiva SA ( drugs without prescription) in sales was 11% in 2018 against 14% in the previous year.

Zentiva had at the end of last year 578 employees.
