Statistics: 16% more tourists in January

The number of tourists in January 2012 has grown by 16% compared to the same period of 2011, while border crossing points registered a 3% increase of the number of foreign tourists and a 0.2% drop of the number of Romanians travelling abroad. The data were announced by the National Statistics Institute (INS) in a press release.

405,800 tourists were recorded in hotels in January 2012, 79.7% of whom represented Romanian tourists, a share similar to 2011.813,400 tourists, of whom 79.4% were Romanian, spent the night in hotels in January 2012.“The net index of accommodation in January 2012 was 16.8%, on the rise by 0.2% compared to 2011. Higher indexes were registered in hotels (20.1%) and vacation villages (18.3%)”, INS informs.

481,100 foreign visitors came to Romania through various border crossing points, on the rise by 3% compared to January 2011. Most foreign visitors came from European countries (95.7%) and of them 58.7% came from EU countries, from Hungary (35.3%), Bulgaria (22.4%), Italy (8.1%), Germany (7.4%), Austria (4.6%) and Poland (4%).

Air transport had the highest increase in January 2012 (12.9%).855,800 Romanian visitors went abroad, on the drop by 0.2% compared to 2011. Road transport means were the most used for travelling abroad, representing 73.6%. Railroad transport registered the highest increase of 4.2% in 2012, compared to 2011.

More
