Romania sees EU's highest annual inflation in Jan

Romania posted the EU's highest annual inflation rate in January, at 7.3%, Eurostat, the EU's statistical office, said on Thursday. Romania also registered the third-highest monthly increase in consumer prices in the EU and highest among EU member states in Southeast Europe (SEE) last month, at 1.1%, Eurostat said in a data release.

 

Greece, on the other hand, recorded the steepest monthly decline in consumer prices among EU members in SEE, at 0.9%, while the EU as a whole marked a monthly deflation of 0.2%.

Greece also posted the lowest annual inflation in the region in January, at 3.2%, slightly above the EU average of 3.1%.

 

Bulgaria was the only other country among EU members in SEE to register a month-on-month rise in its consumer prices last month, at 0.2%.
