Romania - honorary guest of this year's International Book Fair in Leipzig

Romania is this year the honorary guest of the International Book Fair in Leipzig, the most important European event dedicated to promoting reading and one of the oldest fairs of its kind in the world, which will debut on March 15.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Culture and National Identity (MCIN) issued on Friday, along with its partners, MCIN showed the proper attention to the event, by organizing over 60 events and inviting more than 40 authors in front of the German readers.

"The International Book Fair in Leipzig, where Romania is the honorary guest country, is one of the most important international fairs. I am honored that the Ministry of Culture and National Identity is the organizer of the Romanian presence there. On the occasion of this event, on the eve of the Centenary of the Union, I want us to talk more about what European Romania must really be, the cultural Romania, our Romania, of all of us, as a national project. Maybe more than ever, it is our duty not only to look carefully at the realities of the Romanian culture but to understand that the Year of the Centenary of the Great Union gives us the opportunity of a new start, the opportunity to celebrate the culture in the entirety of its expressions," Culture Minister George Ivascu was quoted as saying by the press release.

A special moment is the event that the German writer of Romanian origin Herta Muller will open: Ada Milea's concert, an audio and visual show, whose texts the 2009 literary Nobel Prize laureate signs were translated in German, the MCIN informs.
