Romania and Bulgaria signed a memorandum for « joining the electricity markets »

The minister of economy, commerce and business environment in Romania and the ministry of economy, energy and tourism of Bulgaria signed a memorandum regarding the preparation and implementation of a project for the joining of electricity markets, the ministry of economy informs. “This is an important step made by the two parties in the direction of efficiency in the process of allocating capacities for electricity, to ensure a competitive and real price, as well as to ensure the security of electricity supply in the region” the press release says.According to a press release from the relevant Romanian ministry, the document establishes the legal framework for facilitating the regional integration of electricity markets from the two countries and coupling the electricity markets of Romania and Bulgaria.

Ion Ariton was on Tuesday in Bulgaria, upon the invitation of his counterpart Traycho Traykov, to participate in the Conference called 'Energy in South-East Europe: Energy without Borders - from National Approach to Regional Approach.' The aim of the meeting was to analyse the common measures for the development of the energy sector in South-East Europe, in line with the European Union's provisions and the objective of ensuring regional security.

On this occasion Ion Ariton, the minister of economy and his Bulgarian couterpart Traycho Traykov discussed the project of interconnection of gas national systems at Giurgiu-Ruse, the opportunity of constructing a hydropower station on the Danube and the Romanian part willingness to export electricity to the south –eastern part of Europe.

As regards the interconnection pipeline Giurgiu-Ruse, Transgaz finalised the technical project regarding the construction of the gas pipeline between Romania and Bulgaria.Romania and Bulgaria have an agreement regarding the interconnection of the gas network. According to the authorities, the Giurgiu-Ruse pipeline could be finalised at the end of next year.
* At present Transgaz finalised the project for the Romanian party, the gas measuring station (SMG) Giurgiu and the land segment between SMG Giurgiu and the subway under the Danube on the Romanian side, the ministry of economy says.
*The project for the interconnection Bulgaria –Romania, on the Giurgiu-Ruse area aims at the diversification of the gas sources destined to Romania and Bulgaria.
The pipeline has a maximum capacity of transport of 1.5 billion sqmyear, minimum capacity of transport – 0.5 billion sqmyear, maximum pressure – 40 bar, minimum pressure – 29 bar, interconnecting pipeline diameter – DN 500 mm.
• Total value for the project ( eligible for European co-financing) is of 23,823,836 euro out of which Transgaz S.A. – 10,093,952 euro and Bulgartransgaz. E.a.d.- 13,729,884 euro.

Romania managed in October, to launch another interconnection pipeline : Arad –Szeged. The Romanian authorities and the Hungarian ones launched, with a delay of 10 months, the gas pipeline Arad – Szeged, being the first steps on a competitive market.
