Official EU stand by Romanian Embassy in Pyongyang

Romania’s Embassy in Pyongyang conveyed a verbal note to the North Korean Foreign Ministry including the official EU stand referring to the hostilities between North and South Korea initiated on Tuesday, Doris Mircea, the general manager of the Communication Department of the Romanian Foreign Ministry declared on Thursday. She pointed out that since the Belgian EU presidency was not represented in Pyongyang, the official communication was ensured through a rotating system which is managed by Romania until the end of the year.Doris Mircea also explained that no consular request had been made by EU citizens with Romania’s diplomatic mission.

Two South Korean militaries and two civilians were killed and 18 wounded on Tuesday by North Korean missiles which were aimed at a South Korean island located in the west of the peninsula in the Yellow Sea.The Foreign Ministry declared to be “deeply preoccupied” by the attack launched by North Korea against South Korea, unequivocally condemning such acts. The Ministry requests Pyongyang authorities to end provocative actions without delay.

“At the same time we salute the call to calm and restrain made by the president of South Korea Lee Myung-bak and convey our regrets and sympathy to victim families,” the Foreign Ministry press release reads.
