MedLife, the largest private hospital in Romania – 17 mil. Euros investment
The medical service operator MedLife, controlled by Marcu family and IFC, the investment division of the World Bank, has invested 17 million euros in the erection and expansion of Life Memorial hospital.
The project for the expansion of the maternity ward joins other projects carried out in the last two years for the development of the medical unit.Most of the new investments were made for the purchase of equipment for OR, for the 40 medical-surgical specialties, the opening of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Center , the inauguration of an oncology department and the expansion of the hospital area. At present the hospital has an area of 12,500 sq.m. and 150 beds. Life Memorial opened two years ago and since then has registered about 27,000 patients, 10,000 interventions and over 1,500 births. According to company officials, this year the hospital has a budget of 20 million lei, double the 2008 figure. Now the hospital has 120 permanent employees. MedLife has a network of 4 hyper-clinics in Bucharest and in the country, five test labs, 28 medical centers and collaboration partnership with over 100 clinics in the whole country.The local private medical service market may reach over 430 million euros by the end of the year, 35% more than in 2008, MedLife officials estimate. In the private medical service market the main players are Medicover, MedLife, Euromedic, Unirea Medical Center, Medcenter, Gral Medical, Sanador, Romar Medical Center, Medsana and Hiperdia.
