Kaspersky estimates 10% increase for IT security market in 2009
The representatives of Kaspersky Lab in Romania estimate the Romanian IT security market will have a 10% increase this year, compared to 2008, at 10 million euros. At the beginning of the year IDC foresaw a 10-20% increase to 10-12 million euros. The general manager of Kaspersky Lab for Romania and Bulgaria, Teodor Cimpoesu, said that because of the economic crisis affecting Romania, he reviewed the market share estimated for this year, on the drop by 5% from 30% to 25%.
“A 25% increase of the market share is a provision closer to the truth than 30% made at the beginning of the year. Things were not as we expected for retail but we had good results for business. Last year we had 60% of incomes from retail and 40% from business. Now we have approximately equal percentages between the two market segments,” Cimpoesu mentioned. According to the general manager of Kaspersky for Romania and Bulgaria, the business increase was 50-60% in the first months of the year, especially because of the clients’ migration and the attraction of new clients.
“Our partners Gecad and Ager won tenders and so we have clients from the public domain, city halls, the Romanian Road Authority. With Ager we have a 13,000 license contract with the Ministry of Justice”, Cimpoesu added. Until the end of the month, the local representative office will open its online shop, expected to generate 5% of sales in 2010. Kapersky Lab launched on Tuesday in Romania Kpersky Internet Security 2010 suite and Kapersky Anti-Virus 2010, the new generations of solutions for the protection of individual users against IT threats.
