In 2021, Romania had highest number of underage mothers in EU
In 2021, Romania had the highest number of underage mothers in EU – 8,024 , according to data sent by the National Statistics Institute on Thursday.
Of these, 3,446 were 17 years old, 2,424 were 16, 1.409 – were 15 and 745 were between 10 and 14 years old.
At general level, the number of underage mothers was 27,845 in WU, of whom 14.010 were 17, 8,268 were 16, 3,902 were 15 years old and 1,664 were between 10 and 14 years old. Luxembourg was the state with the fewest underaged mothers in 2021, that is 14.
At the opposite pole, other countries with a significant number of underaged mothers in 2021 was France – 3,479, Bulgaria – 2,976 and Germany – 2,830.
On the other hand, the number of underage mothers dropped constantly in Romania between 2017 and 2021. In 2017 Romania had 9,425 mother under 18, in 2018 – 8,621, in 2019 – 8,457 and in 2020 – 8,276. While in 2017, 761 girls aged between 10 and 14 years old became mothers, in 2021 their number dropped to 745.
