Head-negotiator of Albania for accession to the EU – received by the Romanian minister of foreign affairs


The minister of foreign affairs, Bogdan Aurescu received on Friday the head-negotiator of the Republic of Albania for accession to the European Union, Zef Mazi, on a working visit to Romania, between 7 and 9 April.

The head of Romanian diplomacy welcomed the fact that the visit to Romania of the head-negotiator Zef Mazi is his  first foreign visit since taking this position, aspect which reflects the good relations between the two countries, as well the constant support of Romania for the European route of Albania, shows a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE).

Aurescu restated on this occasion the firm support of Romania for the objective of the Republic of Albania to access the European Union and expressed the full availability of our country to offer expertise and assistance in domains of priority for the Albanian party, in the perspective of starting the accession negotiations for Albania to the European Union.

In this sense,he expressed Romania’s support for the setting of the negotiation framework for the accession and organisation of the first intergovernmental conference between the EU and Albenia, the Republic of North Macedonia respectively.


The Romanian minister showed, at the same time, the importance which Romania places to the strategic dimension of the Western Balkans to be kept on the agenda of the ministers of foreign affairs in the EU member states.He also mentioned the fact that, as a result of the signing by the Romanian minister  of foreign affairs, together with other eight ministers in the EU member states, of the letter sent to the High Representative of the EU, Josep Borrell, a strategic discussion regarding the Western Balkans is programmed to take place at the Council of Foreign Affairs on 19th April, this year.

The discussions approached, at the same time, topics of interest on the agenda of  bilateral relations, focusing on the importance of the political,diplomatic dialogue as well as sectorial in 2021.The potential of the development of economic relations between the two countries has also been mentioned in order to be stimulated as a result.
