Ghimbav-based Premium Aerotec aircraft factory is officially opened

A new Premium Aerotec aircraft components factory was officially opened at Ghimbav, the central Brasov county in a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Emil Boc on Tuesday. Boc told those present at the event that the investment is ‘a model of success and seriousness with respect to business and jobs in Romania'.

'The document for the development of the Ghimbav-based aeronautical park was signed in August 2009 and since then I have constantly appreciated the seriousness of the group that has closely met any document it signed and I wish to thank them for this. The Romanian Government too has honoured all the obligations it pledged by granting the state aid, which observed the European schedule and the laws set by the European Union. The 19 million euros worth of state aid is being given in step with the conduct of the investment, with 5 million euros having been granted up until now. The EADS' presence in Romania proves, first and foremost, that it is a country where investments can be made, that the local and national authorities honour their obligations and that by partnership we can develop businesses that take Romania's name everywhere across the world', the Prime Minister stressed.

President of EADS Board of Directors Louis Gallois thanked the Romanian officials for the rendered support. 'We want to attain 1,000 employees and we are proud to be part of the local community. We want to reach the 1970s levels, when the aeronautical industry, here at Ghimbav, was strongly developed and enjoyed worldwide reputation. We are delighted to be able to back Romania in developing its aeronautical sector, by locating Premium Aerotec and other EADS subsidiaries, such as Eurocopter here in Brasov. EADS is thus expanding its presence in the Romanian industrial climate, a presence in fact already felt in important projects, such as the border security project', Gallois said.

Managing director of Premium Aerotec, the Romanian subsidiary, Dieter Meiners said the Ghimbav factory has already made 180,000 components and 45,000 assemblies for Airbus since Dec. till now; the factory is to make 1.3 million components and assemblies annually with the help of the most modern production technology, he added.

The new Premium Aerotec unit produces and assembles metal components for all the Airbus series programmes.

Premium Aerotec investments in Ghimbav factory, that has a built area of 60,000 square metres, total 40 million euros; the factory development will continue till end-2012. The production facility currently employs 260 staff and it plans to hire a total 500 by end-2013, Agerpres reports.
