German restaurant chain Wienerwald debuts business in Romania
The German restaurant chain Wienerwald entered Romania through an initial investment of 150,000 euros that is planned to grow to 3 million euros at the end of the project; the first location is in Bucharest, near the Vitan Post Office building.
'In the next two or three months we will open in Bucharest another two Wienerwald restaurants; in April next year we will have ten units, and in three years we will be operating 30 restaurants in Romania, following a total investment of three million euros,' Wienerwald Romania partner Ali Capa told Agerpres on Thursday.
The businessman said that the decision to invest was taken as a result of the improvement in the economic situation in Romania, but also due to the fact that the public food service is less dependent on economic cycles.
'Various sectors experienced a dramatic decrease - real estate, clothing retail - because of the reduction in the purchasing power, but the food industry was less affected. Maybe the turnover dipped slightly, but the number of customers remained the same,' Ali Capa said.
Another reason for this move was that chicken consumption in Romania is higher than in other West European countries; for example, from this point of view, Romania outperforms Germany by 50 pct. The Wienerwald restaurants prepare the chicken meat according to a secret, more than half a century old recipe.
In the first three days since opening and although no promotion was organized, the first Wienerwald restaurant in Bucharest had about 200 customers each day.
'This is a highly positive reaction and we pursue a target of 350-400 customers a day, for both the restaurant and home deliveries,' added the Wienerwald Romania official.
Wienerwald owns 35 restaurants with 250 employees in Germany and 33 restaurants in Turkey. Its turnover last year stood at around 29 million euros in Germany and 18 million euros in Turkey. Wienerwald restaurants in Germany serve around 2.4 million customers a year.
