Gelin, BRD: Infrastructure can become a gridlock in Romania's development
Infrastructure can become a gridlock which will penalize Romania’s future development because of problems such as administrative incapacity or the use of European funds, the president of BRD Patrick Gelin declared. “Infrastructure is a major stake for Romania. If the development and modernization of this sector is not sped up I am afraid it could become a gridlock which will penalize the country’s future development”, Gelin said. “There are major problems such as administrative incapacity or the use of European funds or those from other international financial institutions”, he added. The BRD president identified other major projects for Romania’s development – the administration of public finances and the question of human resources. Referring to the first aspect he mentioned that it could determine, in case of bad management, a slow getting out of crisis, in the conditions in which the maneuver margin in public finances did not exist in the past and is reduced at present. Gelin explained that the “talent leakage” from Romania represents another major problem more serious than capital leakage when many young people leave to study abroad and only seldom return.
