Eurostat: Inflation in Romania three times as high as EU average


The annual rate of inflation in Romania dropped in April to 2.3 pct, being three times larger than the EU average, which was 0.7 pct, according to data published on Wednesday by the European Statistics Office (Eurostat).

The National Institute for Statistics (INS) informed that the annual rate of inflation dropped to 2.7 pct in April of this year, from 3 pct in March, while food items increased in price by 5.72 pct, services by 3.06 pct, and non-food items by 0.53 pct. Consumption prices in April 2020, compared to March, rose by 0.26 pct, and over December 2019 the increase was of 1.42 pct.

The inflation prognosis of the National Bank of Romania for this year is 3 pct.
