Diaconescu: We have started discussions about the visit of the Romanian president to Ukraine

The minister of foreign affairs, Cristian Diaconescu stated on Friday in Iasi that the Romanian party is negotiating with the authorities in Kiev for the visit of the Romanian president to Ukraine.
Asked by the MEDIAFAX correspondent if there is any news in connection to the topic of the visit of president Traian Basescu to Ukraine, Diaconescu answered : “ Bilateral contacts are on our agenda. We discuss with the Ukrainian party for the visit of the Romanian president to Ukraine”.
Present Traian Basescu had to visit Kiev between 25 – 26 February but the visit was annulled at the last moment.
According to a press release coming from the ministry of foreign affairs “ on 24 February 2009, as a result of our consultations, the parties agreed to continue the preparation for the official visit to Ukraine of president Basescu, as soon as possible, on a date to be established on diplomatic channels” without any other details.
Some days after that, there was the scandal about espionage, followed by the expulsion of diplomats between Romania and Ukraine.
Basescu received on 24 June in Cotroceni, a delegation of representatives of the Romanian associations in Ukraine, the occasion The representatives of the governments of Romania and Ukraine will discuss in September in Kiev the situation of the Krivoi Rog unit, according to a press release of the ministry of economy.
