COVID digital certificate application will be completed by July 1

The platform on COVID digital certificates, which will facilitate free movement in the European Union, implemented in Romania with the support of the Special Telecommunications Service (STS), will be completed by July 1 this year, the director of the Service, Ionel-Sorin Balan said on Tuesday.

"We are working on the portal application and the certificate modification application. It will be clearly ready by July 1," the head of the STS said in Parliament, where he was present at the meeting of the Joint Defense Committees.

He recalled that the computer platforms developed can allow the generation of three types of certificates: vaccination, recovery from the disease and testing.

"A portal will be accessed. On this portal, the person wishing to download a certificate will provide some data. These data will be verified in the computer systems we have at our disposal, namely the National Vaccination Register or Coronaforms, the Electronic Vaccination Register and Coronaforms application for other types of certificates. After applying for one or more certificates, the person trying to obtain such a certificate will receive this certificate in the personal account registered on the computer platform. This certificate can be held electronically, on the mobile phone or on another device, can be printed and presented to the authorities. There is also a developed application that allows the verification of the authenticity of the presented document," the STS head explained.

Ionel-Sorin Balan specified that at the moment a legislative document is being worked on which will clearly explain the way of using the application.

The head of STS presented in the Parliament the activity review of the institution.

"According to Law 92/1996, STS is controlled by the Parliament (...) Today we presented the activity review of the institution for the year 2020 and also the main directions of action for the year 2021", he also specified.
