American Independent Film Festival # 5 to feature national premieres


A selection of films that have impressed critics and audiences at major world festivals, as well as national premieres will run in the fifth edition of the American Independent Film Festival, which will take place June 23-27 at the Museum of the Romanian Peasant Cinema and Food Hood, outdoors, according to the organisers.

Presented as a national premiere, "The Nest" tells the story of the relocation of a couple who leave their peaceful home in the American suburbs to start a new life in the UK. An ambitious entrepreneur (Jude Law) brings his American wife (Carrie Coon) and children to his home country to explore new business opportunities, but their new life threatens to break up their family.

AIFF.5 viewers will be able to watch for the first time in Romania "Falling," the directorial debut of the American star Viggo Mortensen, known worldwide for his role in the trilogy "Lord of the Rings" and a multiple-time winners for his parts in "A Dangerous Method," "Eastern Promises," and "Captain Fantastic."

This year's edition of the festival also comes with the "Iconic Debut" section, in which moviegoers will have the opportunity watch or re-watch the first films of well-known American directors, such as Jim Jarmusch, Richard Linklater, and the brothers Joel and Ethan Coen.

Films in the section include "Stranger than Paradise," "Slacker," and "Blood Simple."

Every year, the American Independent Film Festival brings the newest, most creative and original American films to the Romanian public and holds workshops, debates, master classes with renowned filmmakers and actors. Guests from previous editions include Joaquin Phoenix, Ethan Hawke , John C. Reilly, Kent Jones, Roberto Minervini, Benh Zeiltin, Jacques Audiard, Kirill Mikhanovski, Merawi Gerima, Maya Hawke, and Sebastian Stan.

AIFF.5 is organised by the Cinemascop Association and is a project funded by the Romanian Ministry of Culture.
