Agricultural production value down 15.4 pct in 2020


 The value of Romania's agricultural production decreased 15.4 percent in 2020, as the crop production dropped 21.5 percent, and animal production and agricultural services both slid by 1.2 percent, shows data released on Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

The value of the agricultural production amounted to 81.4 billion lei in current prices, with the crop production accounting for 52.8 billion lei and the animal production for 26.7 billion lei. Agricultural services amounted to 1.8 billion lei.

There were significant changes in the structure of the value of the 2020 agricultural production compared to the previous year. The share of the crop production was 64.9 percent, 5.1 percentage points down from the previous year, animal production accounts for 32.9 percent, 4.9 percentage points up compared to the previous year, and agricultural services accounted for 2.2 percent, INS said.

As regards the 2020 crop production by main crop groups, there was a rise in the share of vegetables, melons included (+4.2 percentage points), fruits and grapes (+3.6 percentage points), fodder plants (+1.2 percentage points) and potatoes (+1.0 percentage points) and a decrease in the share of cereals (-7.6 percentage points), other product groups (-1.6 percentage points) and oilseed plants (-0.8 percentage points).

As regards the structure of the value of the 2020 animal production by main species and product groups, there was a share increase for the sheep and goat production (+0.7 percentage points), milk products obtained in livestock farms (+0.6 percentage points), cattle (+0.4 percentage points) and other product groups (+0.2 percentage points) and decreases for poultry (-1.4 percentage points) and pigs (-0.5 percentage points).

The value of the agricultural CFA Romania's 2021 projections: 5.8 pct economic growth, budget deficit at 6.2 pct of GDPproduction is expressed in basic prices (producer prices plus product subsidies minus product taxes) for each year.
