Russian expert : Interceptors in Romania threaten Russian securityPlans to place in Romania interception missiles which are part of the European shield of the global system of air defence of the US is a real threat at the address of Russian security, the head editor of “National Defence” magazine Igor Korotcenia said.

« It is about the installation in Romania, by 2015 of a terrestrial variant of the system which presupposes the use of the new missiles SM-3 ( standard missile). Undoubtedly, the weapon is capable to reduce Russia’ s capacity in the domain of nuclear threat” the Russian officer explained.
According to his statements, the SM-3 missiles could, due to the modernized and improved programme TTX to intercept and destroy Russian intercontinental missiles in their starting part of the flight.
Korotcenia reminded that the Pentagon analyses the possibility to move to the Baltic Sea, Black Sea and the Barents the fighting ships of the American military fleet equipped with the same system of missiles. “ In the case of placing elements of the global air defence system on Romanian territory, Russia has to announce that these new points will be regarded as main attack targets for the Russian missile systems” the expert warned.

He underlined that the military political elite of Russia should make it clear that Russia will not delay their answer to the US decision to place elements of the shield on its territory, the RIA Novosti says.

In the context of the new American plans regarding the anti-missile shield, Russia has to strengthen the fighting potential of the fleet in the Black Sea, the head of the Major State of the military Russian marine, Viktor Kravcenko said at the radio station Eho Mosckvy.According to his words, if the American missiles are installed on Romania’s territory and in the waters of the Black Sea, this will lead to a change of the forces balance in the region and not in favour of Russia.
