Date: 11-03-2010
Attending a Romanian-Japanese economic forum in Tokyo on Wednesday, President Traian Basescu said that Romania gave a positive answer to Russia in point of beginning the exploration in Romania's economic area at the Black Sea.'I can inform you that we have already given a positive answer to the Russians, who asked us to allow them to start exploring Romania's economic area, which is situated at the Black Sea,' said President Basescu, thus answering some questions asked by the representative of a Japanese company.
He made it clear that Romania, in its capacity as a European country, primarily promoted the Nabucco project, on which it signed an agreement.
'But at the same time we have nothing against South Stream. Nobody is going to block the access of the Russian project to the Black Sea. Romania does not oppose South Stream, but we shall primarily support the Nabucco project, which is an EU project ... We do not oppose South Stream, but we give pride of place to the European project Nabucco,' said Basescu.
