Azerbaijani President received Romanian FM

Azerbaijan`s President Ilham Aliyev has Thursday received Romania`s foreign minister Teodor Baconschi. The President said Azerbaijan and Romania enjoyed "strong partnership relations and intensive diplomatic ties", AzerTAj News Agency reported. President Ilham Aliyev said relations between the two presidents played important role in developing the Azerbaijan-Romania ties. The President expressed confidence the Romanian FM`s visit would contribute to developing the two countries` relations.
According to the Romanian ForMin press release, the two ministers examined the stage of the economic cooperation and established the priorities of the agenda of the next session of the Romanian-Azerbaijani Joint Economic Commission, whose date will be decided on in the time to come.
The Azerbaijani side confirmed its support to the Nabucco and PEOP projects, which are priorities for Romania, and stated again its willingness to to go thoroughly into the talks about the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Romania Interconnector, which stipulates carrying the Azerbaijani gas in liquefied form to Constanta (south-eastern Romania). Romania will go on supporting a more marked involvement of the European Commission in generating a sustainable natural gas supply to the Nabucco pipeline.
The visit would also be important in terms of discussing the European Union-Azerbaijan cooperation and regional situation. Baconschi conveyed Romanian leader Traian Basescu`s greetings to the Azerbaijan leader. He said his Romania`s president was keen to develop relations with Azerbaijan.
Baconschi recalled the Azerbaijani leader`s last year visit to Romania, saying "personal relations between our presidents are a crucial factor in terms of development of strategic partnership between the two countries". President Ilham Aliyev asked the Romanian FM to extend his greetings to President Traian Basescu.
