IRES poll: Romanians say their life has worsened since 2010

The Romanians tend to believe their life has taken a turn for the worse since 2010, shows a survey conducted by the Romanian Institute for Evaluation and Strategy (IRES) sent to Agerpres on Friday.

According to the poll, 46 percent of Romanians say things have worsened in 2011, 32 percent consider their lives have not changed at all whereas for 22 percent of Romanians, things have improved.

'When asked about the life of the other inhabitants living in the same city, compared to the previous year, people became even more pessimistic, as 57 percent say it is worse, 24 percent nearly the same and only 11 percent find it better. When it comes to the inhabitants across the entire country, the respondents say their fellows most likely had a harder life in 2011 against 2010,' the survey reveals.

Concerning the causes of their problems, most of them (60 percent) complain about the insufficient income.

Moreover, the job is considered a source of issues by 36 percent of the polled population, while 64 percent blame the monthly household expenses.

Asked to name their financial position on a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 meaning 'very poor' and 10 'very rich', the majority of the participants tended to place their living standard somewhere around 5.

Among the deepest fears of the respondents are those related to the future of their children (83 percent), prices (81 percent), criminality (80 percent), possible diseases (74 percent), social unrest (70 percent), unemployment (59 percent), a terrorist attack (46 percent) and war (43 percent).

Romanians' major discontent is related to money

Romanians' major discontent is linked to their money, reveals a sociological study conducted by the Romanian Institute for Assessment and Strategy (IRES), released on Friday.

According to the survey, 74 percent of the polled are discontent over their income and just 25 percent said they were satisfied with it.
As well, 68 percent of the polled said they are discontent over their living conditions, while those satisfied account for 31 percent.

Romanians are most content with their families - 89 percent and their friends - 76 percent.

The IRES study was conducted during December 21-22, 2011 on a sample of representative 1,455 subjects. Margin of error is ± 2.7 percent.
