Romania, ranked 63rd in Index of economic freedom worldwide, according to Heritage Foundation

Romania's economy is free in a proportion of 64.7 percent, which places it 63rd out of 183 countries in the rankings of the world's freest economies, according to the findings of a report released on Wednesday by the Heritage Foundation, a Washington-based reputable organization in the field of economic analysis .

According to the 2011 Index of economic freedom, Romania's score improved by 0.5 percent compared with the previous edition. Although it is outrun by countries such as Bulgaria - 60th, Hungary - 51st, Slovakia - 37th, and the Czech Republic - 28th, Romania is however ahead of France - ranked 64th, Slovenia - 66th, Turkey - 67th, Poland - 68th, and Portugal - 69th.

According to this report, Romania is ranked 27th of the 43 states of the European region and its overall score is higher than the global average. In preparing the tables, the Heritage Foundation took into account a list of 10 criteria, such as state intervention into the economy, property rights, fiscal policy, corruption degree, freedom of labor.
