OECD launches in Bucharest the latest study of the Black Sea and Central Asia Initiative
The Development Centre of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) launches, on 26 November at the MFA Headquarters, the study Economic Development and Competitiveness in Eastern Europe and the South Caucasus, in the framework of the Black Sea and Central Asia Initiative (BSCAI).It is in recognition of the support Romania offered to the project that OECD selected Bucharest to officially launch the six country reports encompassed by the study. The BSCAI project covers states in the Black Sea and Central Asia area (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Republic of Moldova, Serbia and Ukraine). The initiative involves overall economic assessments for several sectors.
Emphasis is given to such topics as the local market, the informal sector, investment, infrastructure, narrowing the disparities between the urban and rural sectors, migration and remittances, the growth of incomes and improvement of social conditions.The event is to be attended, for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, by the State Secretary for Global Affairs, Doru Costea. Also present will be the OECD Development Centre’s BSCAI coordinator, Colm Foy.
Romania has been a full member of the OECD Development Centre (DEV) since 2004. Its contribution to a smooth DEV activity includes the co-funding, with Greece and Turkey, of the 2008 Black Sea and Central Asia Economic Outlook (BSECAO), and the official launching of the study in Bucharest the same year.
