Date: 03-09-2010

Transport Ministry to launch tenders with European financing of 3.14bln euros The Transport Ministry will launch, until the end of the year, tenders with European financing, through the Transport Regional Operational Programme, worth 3.14bn euros, Transport Minister Radu Berceanu told a Wednesday's press conference.

'Until the end of 2010, we will have tenders worth 3.14bn euros launched with European funds, through the Sectoral Operational Programme, and, as of March 2011, the works on most these projects will be started effectively, regardless of who the minister will be,' the transport minister said.

He added that European funds worth 41 million euros have been drawn so far effectively to the ministry and other 60 million euros would come in the coming days from the EU.

'I am sure this time next year the Transport Ministry will rank first in terms of European funds drawn effectively, and we do not have pre-financing as in the case of other programmes and the procedures last between one and one and a half years until the tenders are won. Moreover, we have only 60-70 projects that total over 6 billion euros, because they are high-value projects ', the transport minister said.

According to Minister Berceanu, among the contracts to be signed in the coming period are: Nadlac - Arad Motorway (west) - 188 million euros, Timisoara - Lugoj Motorway (west) - 338 million euros, Orastie - Sibiu Motorway (center) - 770 million euros, Curtici - Arad Railway - 397 million euros, Sighisoara - Coslariu Railway (center) - 815 million euros, and some bypasses, which will cost some 50 million euros. Berceanu added that until 2015, the ministry must draw over 6.7 billion euros, and some 90 percent from these projects would be put out to tender in the coming period.
