Statistics : Industrial turnover down 15.6 pct in January

In nominal terms, the overall industrial turnover (on the domestic and foreign market) fell 15.6 percent in January this year from the month before, but increased 6.5 pct in comparison with the similar period of 2009, the National Statistics Institute (INS) announced. The decline in the industrial turnover in January 2010 as to December 2009 was the result of the fall registered in the processing industry and the mining industry (- 16.3 pct and -4.8 pct, respectively).
By major industry groups, the turnover dipped in all sectors: the FMCG industry (- 20.4 pct); the durables industry (- 18.1 pct); the capital goods industry (- 17.4 pct); the intermediate goods industry (- 12.4 pct); the energy industry (-6.5 pct).
The evolution of the industrial turnover referenced to January 2009 was the effect of the growth registered in the processing industry (+ 7.3 pct). The mining industry dipped 4.8 pct.
A breakdown by major industrial groups shows that the turnover increased in January 2010 versus January 2009 in the capital goods industry (+ 26.5 pct) and the energy industry (+20.5 percent).
There was a decline of 3.6 pct in the FMCG industry, whereas the industry of durables and that of intermediate goods dropped 3.2 pct and 1.6 pct respectively.
