Top 10 cities in Romania in point of population Romania's ten biggest cities concentrate about 20.9 percent of this country's population and Bucharest has the largest number of people, 1.94 million, according to the most recent data sent to Agerpres by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

Next come Iasi (eastern Romania), 315,649 people, Timisoara (western Romania), 312,113 people, Cluj-Napoca (central Romania), 306,009 people, Constanta (south-eastern Romania), 302,040 people, Craiova (southern Romania), 298,643 people, Galati (eastern Romania), 290,733 people, Brasov (central Romania), 278,003 people, Ploiesti (southern Romania), 228,378 people, and Braila (eastern Romania), 211,884 people.

The INS data also show that, over 2005-2009, the second part of the classification of Romania's biggest cities did not change. There were changes in the first half alone. Thus, Cluj-Napoca moved from the second position (2005) to the fourth (2009), Iasi went up from the third place (2005) to the second (2009), Constanta went down from the fourth place (2005) to the fifth (2009) and Timisoara went up from the fifth to the third position in the above-mentioned span of time.

Accofrding to Agerpres, between 2005 and 2009 whereas Bucharest and Timisoara grew as regards the number of their inhabitants, the population of the city of Constanta constantly decreased in number, from 306,332 to 302,040 people.
