Prince Felipe of Spain and Princess Letizia, in an official visit in Romania

Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia of Asturias arrived Monday in Romania for an official visit, at the invite of the Romanian President, Traian Basescu, a press release of the Presidency informs. The Romanian President Traian Basescu and his wife Maria welcomed them at Cotroceni Palace (the presidential hqs).

Prince Felipe, the heir to the Spanish throne and President Basescu held talks, followed by discussions by the two official delegations, while Princess Letizia and Mrs. Maria Basescu visited the Cotroceni Palace Museum.The Prince of Asturias is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Emil Boc and the Deputies' Chamber Speaker Roberta Anastase on Tuesday. President Basescu paid a state visit to Spain in November 2007. It is assessed that over 700,000 Romanians are currently living in Spain, being the second-biggest foreign community in that country.
Spanish exports to Romania in excess of one bln euros, in 2008
Spanish exports to Romania exceeded one billion euros in 2008, after the previous year they had attained the level of 883 million euros. The growth accounted for 37.6 percent over 2000-2005, informs a note referring to the Romanian-Spanish bilateral relations, released by the Embassy of Spain to Romania.

The share capital volume registered by the Spanish companies in Romania in the past ten years, from 1999 to Feb. 2009, is of 800 million euros, Spain ranking seventh in the foreign investors top in Romania.

There are 3,482 companies with Spanish capital, the Spanish investments being of 799.292 billion euros, accounting for 3.52 percent of overall investments in Romania in the past 20 years. The fact that a percentage of 73 percent of these companies was created in the past four years is relevant. In 2008, as many as 746 new companies were set up and the subscribed capital rose by more than 249 million euros. Spanish investments in Romania were mainly focused on sectors as the auto related sector, the agri-food products, wood processing, constructions and real estate.On the occasion of the official visit to Romania of their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Asturias, a Forum of Spanish business people in Romania is to take place in Bucharest, on Tuesday.
