President Basescu starts today an official visit to France

President Traian Basescu will pay on May 18 and 19 an official visit to France, at the invitation of his counterpart Nicholas Sarkozy, the presidential administration said on Friday. The schedule of the visit includes official talks of the two heads of state as well as meetings of the Romanian President with President of the National Assembly Bernard Accoyer and with the first minister Francois Fillon. During the first day of the visit the head of state will have a meeting also with Angel Gurria, secretary general of the Organization for Cooperation and Economic development, and will meet member of the Romanian community in France. Basescu will also participate in a businessforum held by the organization of the French employers associations, MEDEF. During the second day of the official visit, he will visit the nuclear-electrical plant in Flammanville. President Traian Basescu payed official working visits in France, on Nov 21, 2005 and on May 30-31 2006. This year, on Feb 16-17, ForMin Cristian Diaconescu payed a visit to Paris, where, together with his counterpart, Bernard Kuchner, he approached aspects of the international crisis and the way in which Romania and France can coordinate their efforts for that.

IN 2007, the bilateral commercial exchanges totalled 4.5 billion euros. The French exports to Romania totalled 2.5 billion euros, around 7.5 more than in 2006, and the imports coming from Romania totalled two billion euros, 5.6 percent more than in 2006.Registered in Bucharest are 1,500 French-capital companies, and the first four French companies in Romania, namely Renault-Dacia, BRD-Groupe Societe Generale, Orange, Distrigaz Sud-Gaz de France total a turnover of over one million euros.
Over 400 French enterprises are present in the region of Timisoara, and 400 more are active in the region of Cluj, Agerpres informs.
